BW alumna shines in lighting design
Maureen Patterson '01 really lights up a room - literally. The theater design and technical grad has received honors this year from both Crain's Cleveland Business and Women in Sports & Events Cleveland (WISE) for her phenomenal work and leadership as owner and lead designer of Solus Lighting LTD. Patterson brings events of all sorts - from theatre to press conferences to weddings - to life through innovative lighting designs.
Honored for excellence
WISE Cleveland recognized Patterson this year as a 2019 WISE Woman of Inspiration. In a press release, the award is described as honoring "women who have made a significant impact in the business of sports and events and who continue to serve as a positive role model and resource for the advancement of women in the industry."
"I am truly both flattered and humbled to receive this recognition," shared Patterson in the press release. "I have been extremely fortunate to have so many opportunities that have helped motivate, advance and inspire others in the industry."
Only a month after the announcement of this honor, Patterson was also named a Notable Woman in Entrepreneurship by Crain's Cleveland Business. This honor recognizes women who are outstanding leaders in their respective businesses.
The transformative power of lighting
Patterson's passion and attention to detail help her to craft creative lighting designs imbued with storytelling.
"Lighting keeps the focus on where the impact should be - such as the speaker, the new product or the building you are dedicating," Patterson explained in a Solus Lighting blog post. "It's about guiding attention, presenting information and moving your audience through the story you want to tell. Lighting can truly transform any venue into the backdrop you need to communicate with your audience."
