BW, an All Steinway School, now has a Steinway Artist
Steinway and Sons has bestowed upon Dr. Sungeun Kim, Baldwin Wallace University professor of keyboard, the coveted title of "Steinway Artist."
Steinway and Sons CEO Ted Good said of Kim, "Your career and talent have justly earned you the right to be included with Steinway's immortals."
A place among legends
In the late 1880s, William Steinway created the Steinway Artist designation to both promote the brand and to honor the world's best pianists. There are currently a little over 1,800 Steinway Artist designations. Kim joins the family of artists which includes Billy Joel, Harry Connick, Jr. and Lang Lang, as well as "immortals" like George Gershwin, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Cole Porter.
Inspiration to students and peers
Mary Dobrea-Grindhal, chair of the BW Conservatory of Music keyboard department, says, "We are absolutely thrilled for Sungeun and this well-deserved honor. She is an artist of the highest caliber and an extraordinary teacher. Her playing is profoundly human and soulful, and she brings deep humility and respect to the stage. She is a true inspiration to her students and colleagues alike." Dobrea-Grindhal encourages the BW community to congratulate Kim.
