BusinessWorks Virtual Co-Op Program

BusinessWorks is an interdisciplinary experiential learning and internship program that provides valuable, paid employment opportunities for BW students while helping employers source prospective talent, advance strategic goals, and launch new large-scale offerings.

Using the virtual co-op model, students in the program work for outside employers on campus before or after class, connecting with stakeholders virtually or at meetings scheduled around key project milestones. This enables students more flexibility and greater opportunities to hone their skills with a real-world organization without traveling off site.

Each student receives support and guidance from a faculty mentor in their respective discipline. The program creates a transdisciplinary experience in which team members from different majors can learn from each other while serving the client.

The initial use case for the app will help customers navigate the process of buying a new car. The project involves faculty and students from three departments: computer science, digital media design, and marketing.

For the 2019-20 academic year, the BusinessWorks program will manage two projects for two different employers. The car-buying app project will continue for further develop of a minimally viable product the student team developed in spring 2019.

In addition, a new project related to health and human services will begin. Dr. Brian Krupp and the students from his undergraduate computer science research group will work with the Medina County division of OhioGuidestone on an interface that can anonymously track health outcomes for individuals seeking sobriety.
